I remember playing Ultima Online shortly after it's launch. My roommate had been playing it for a while and finally talked me into getting into it. This was back in the dial up days, so online play was a bit flakey sometimes. And PvP lag was not something you would like to see happen at all. This was because back then, PvP was full loot. If an Evil type character ran across your character in the wild, they could attack, kill you, fully loot your corpse, and then chop your body up into multiple lootable peices.

True risk was at every turn. You knew not to take your best gear with you, and to always leave backup gear in the bank. You can't trust anyone! Even the good guys can trick you. Never go into a gate someone casts unless you know them well, it could be a trap! But why would someone want to live in such dire situations? The excitement! Perhaps the day that you get revenge on that one PK that has taunting you. Perhaps you yourself will one day fall to the dark evilside of PKing yourself.

This was the Second Age of Ultima Online. They eventually made changes to the game to limit the PvP to allow a mirror world that had no PvP for players that wished to adventure safely. But this was not the UO I remember, I remember the old skool original form of the game. And it seems several players still recall those days!
